Wharf Design and Analysis

We provide design and review services for wharf and pier structures. Our design experience includes a new 550 ft wharf for the Cemex West Sacramento Import Terminal, a 3000 ft wharf at Port of Oakland’s Berths 57-59, the upgrade of the Port of Oakland’s Berth 32 consisting of 250 feet of wharf and the modification of 1500 feet of wharf extension, and the replacement of 500 feet of wharf at Port Authority of Guam after the 1993 earthquake. We have provided repair and retrofit designs for dozens of wharf structures.

We evaluated all of the wharves at Port of Oakland and at Virginia Port Authority to determine the crane rail capacities to aid the ports in their equipment decisions. We provide analysis and review services to justify larger crane girder capacities. Using state-of-the art methods, we justified increasing the allowable capacities of many wharves without the need for strengthening.

We have performed over one hundred reviews of wharf structures for moving or jacking container cranes and other heavy loadings.
